Originally The music You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’   was performed by The Righteous Brothers.

Written by the husband and wife songwriting team of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, at the request of Phil Spector, who produced the song and contributed to the writing of the bridge.

Mann & Weill also wrote the hits “Blame It On The Bossa Nova” done by Eydie Gorme, and “We Gotta Get Out Of This Place” done by The Animals.

In a 1964 song by The Righteous Brothers which became a number-one hit single in the United States and the United Kingdom the following year. In 1999, the performing-rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) ranked the song as having had more radio and television play in the United States than any other song during the 20th century. Additionally, the song was chosen as one of the Songs of the Century by RIAA and ranked #34 on the list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone.

The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003, and performed it at the induction ceremonies. Ironically, Phil Spector was arrested on murder charges just a few weeks before the ceremony.

The song was covered by Johnny Rivers in 1966.

The song was covered by Dionne Warwick in 1969, and her version went to # 16 on the Top 40 charts

In 1980 Hall & Oats covered the song, taking it to # 12 on the charts
