The Catholic Church’s official translation of the Latin Vulgate into English. (New Testament, 1582).
\nDouay, a town in Flanders (now Douai in France),
\nwas the home of Catholic exiles from England. Its name was pronounced in Flemish as if it contained the sound of ow in now:
\nDow-ay, a pronunciation still applied to the Douay Bible by old English Catholic families.<\/span><\/p>\n
